The sport of Olympic Weightlifting consists of two lifts: the snatch and the clean & jerk.  In the snatch the, the weightlifter lifts the barbell from the floor to overhead in a single movement.  In the clean & jerk, the weightlifter lifts the barbell first from the floor to the shoulders (the clean) and then from the shoulders to overhead (the jerk).

Olympic weightlifting skills can translate through many sports and many athletes use Oly as an adjunct to their current training to increase speed, explosiveness and precision. The potential for athletic development with weightlifting is limitless and whether you want to take away some basic skills or become competitive in the sport, We can help you with that and everything in between.

Youth Weightlifting Program

Encouraging our youth in a power based sport is sometimes a daunting task! Many people believe that children should avoid strength sports due to myths about physical growth and development. In a peer reviewed and scholarly study published by Sports Health, the evidence suggests; "Children can improve strength by 30% to 50% after just 8 to 12 weeks of a well-designed strength training program...The case reports of injuries related to strength training, including epiphyseal plate fractures and lower back injuries, are primarily attributed to the misuse of equipment, inappropriate weight, improper technique, or lack of qualified adult supervision...Youth—athletes and nonathletes alike—can successfully and safely improve their strength and overall health by participating in a well-supervised program. Trained fitness professionals play an essential role in ensuring proper technique, form, progression of exercises, and safety in this age group."

It is my absolute priority to first establish safe movement patterns in your child and then develop strength, speed and efficiency in weightlifting.

This program is for any skill level, inclusive of gender and orientation.

In our Youth Weightlifting Development Program you will learn the basics of Olympic style weightlifting which includes the olympic Snatch and the Clean and Jerk in addition to a variety of strength movements such as the deadlift and squat (and their many interpretations!) You will have elements of mobility, gymnastics, locomotion and conditioning in your sessions which will help you develop motor skills, respect and discipline in the gym. This program is diverse and adaptive to ensure that you develop a wide range of athletic skills which can be utilized in not only weightlifting but everyday life!
